Workout routine tips?

I'm 6'1 and 190lbs. Apparently I'm at a pretty good weight for my height but most of it is fat, not muscle. What is a good exercise routine to lose the fat and gain muscle and if you don't mind listing if you've had any personal experience in losing weight. As well as what can motivate me to get in shape. I am cutting down on how much I eat and what I eat. Suffice it to say I eat a lot of sugared products and drink soda like crazy!

The only exercise equipment I have are some weights to lift and thats it. No Bowflex machine or anything like that. I can also jog but I'm not sure how long of a distance to jog because every routine seems to have different 'standards'.

Hi...........I believe this very much and I think you will also. First, if you get started you probably never will quit, and if you do you will always come back. Weight lifting is a great sport and you don't have to spend a dime on anything but some equipment. You need a good bench, a good weight lifters belt for your back.........and maybe a belt for neck exercises , that's up to you. On my bench, I have a leg curling device, I wouldn't be without it......I have a bench pressing rack..........wouldn't be without it........and I have a standing rack for the standing press and squats and toe raises........wouldn't be without it. Then I have dumb bells and also a tricep bar and a french curl bar a big bar and one straight bar, and a couple more dumb bell set ups so I don't have to stop and reload. I like to keep moving and not rest or talk. I have a radio present and when I used to get into big weight I would have a helper or "spotter" in case I dropped a heavy load. And I did that one night and set it on my chest, and I had made a comment once in my life that no one could ever pin me...........well, I don't say that any longer........be cause 250# laying on your shoulders can sure slow you down. I was able to roll it off and slide it off my side, but I had a stomach buise 8 " in diameter......The only thing that saved me was 100 leg and sit ups every night or other wise I would have blown my stomach or intestines. Anyway for you, Lots of protein, eggs bacon meat fowl fish ham and all the veg's you can eat........lots of cold water. Once you start lifting cut the soda down to 3 and then do away with all the sugar you can. Once you have lifted for about 6 to 8 weeks you body will separate the good from the bad all by itself. It's quite something what it does, it likes feeling good, and when you reach to mess it up.......it will be right there to wonder why. It's the only machine that dies from lack of work. A short jog at your age would really be good a couple times a week. I have my own program if you would like it email me and I will send it to you. I work out every night and take one day a week off. I'm a lot older than you, but this program works for all ages. For the first month it will take you about 30 to 45 min. After that it will be up to you. The first thing you will hear is that you can't work out every night.....I disagree, unless you have a hard job. Like carpenter or roofer. But after about 3 to 6 months you will have to split your routine doing half your body 3 nights and the other half the other 3 nights. You don't need anything fancy....just a spot to do it.........no pills , powders, or drugs........trust me........all the great body builders do not use any of it........If you want something good have a fresh pear or apple.
